Y1 – w/c 26th April

This week we’ve been looking at the book Mr Wolf’s Pancakes by Jan Fearnly. On Monday, I set the children a question ‘Is the Big Bad Wolf actually bad or is he just misunderstood?’ Next week we’ll be discussing the differences between Mr Wolf and the Big Bad Wolf and form our opinion.

Wasp writing…

Today we looked at a wasp hive, which was extremely fascinating. We were able to apply our knowledge of bees to see the similarities and differences between the two insects. We then learnt about why wasps are useful and how they are a natural ‘pesticide’ in the garden, fending off bugs that like to munch on plants in great numbers (such as caterpillars).

For our maths choosing time this week, we’ve been focusing on our number bonds to 10 and 20, numbers that come before and after, using a 100s square to help us solve problems, skip counting in 2s,5s and 10s as well as beginning to solve word based problems. Lots of wonderful light bulb moments in maths this week as the kiddos grow in confidence.

This week we finished of our piggie houses, using different materials to represent straw, sticks and bricks. We’ve also continued working on our interactive booklets to explain the components of a fairy tale as well as give the book a rating (which you can see the boys choosing to do during free time).
