Y1 – w/c 19th April

This term we’re looking at everyday materials in science. This week, we’ve been thinking about the properties of wood, metal and plastic. We then had a discussion why our clothes are made out of, mainly, fabric and not materials such as wood. We then did a bit of investigating on the playground, to see what we could find that was made out of wood, plastic and metal.

We’ve been super creative in art/ D.T this week and have been making the Three Little Pigs houses. We’ve also been introduced to another method of colouring,  using the cross hatching method. Lots of fun in the sunshine.

Free time afternoon on Wednesday and early morning learning.

We have new (and very exciting) potion bottles to go alongside our fairy tale unit. Here are some of the children creating their magical potions on Wednesday.

We are looking at measurement this term, on Wednesday we looked at how we can measure length using prediction. We understood that to make a prediction we must first use our eyes, think about it and compare. Here we are measuring the biggest feet and the smallest feet on our tables. On Thursday, we then measured height. Next, we tried to work out whether there was a relationship between height and foot size.

On Thursday, we discussed how we can retell fairytales and why/how they’ve been retold for such a long time. Here we are watching the BBCs ballet production of The Three Little Pigs.
