Our new fairy tale is The Gingerbread Man. We have been enjoying reading different versions of The Gingerbread Man, comparing the differences and similarities. We have also been talking about how most traditional fairy tales have an important moral. The Gingerbread Man certainly sparked up a conversation and the importance of staying safe and not going off with strangers. Here are our gingerbread girls and boys that we made this week. We then wrote a set of instructions about how you decorate a gingerbread person.
This week in science, we have continued to look at everyday materials. On Tuesday, we looked at materials that were waterproof, transparent and opaque. To tie in with our fairy tales unit, we tried to make a fairy tale house out of sugar cubes and spaghetti (pretending to be straw). We wanted to see whether Baby Bear would be snug in his house and whether or not it would be waterproof and withstand the storm (a squirty bottle of water). Mrs Williams certainly did not hold back from squirting the storm at Baby Bear! We concluded that sugar cubes and spaghetti were not great materials to build a fairy tale house because the sugar cubes started to dissolve into a sticky mess. Poor Baby Bear!
In Maths this week, we have continued to work on our missing numbers, using the inverse operation to help us find the answer. Next week we will be using a part-whole template to help understand this concept further. In wider maths, we have continued to work on telling the time. This week we have been working on half past and consolidating our understanding of o’clock.
Our sunflowers are starting to grow. This week we observed the changes that have happened and compared our sunflower’s growth.
