This week has been Pumpkin Week in Year 1 and we’ve had lots of fun learning about this autumnal fruit.
We’ve looked at Christopher Pumpkin, a fictional story about a pumpkin who doesn’t want to be scary and likes all things fun. We have created recipes for pumpkin potions and have learnt how to write a list, both in bullet points and using commas in a sentence. During free time, the children had an opportunity to use the measuring beakers and potion bottles to mix and create their own potions.
In science, we’ve been thinking scientifically, investigating whether pumpkins sink or float when in water. The outcome was very surprising and led to lots of wonderful ideas about where we could take our investigation next. We’ve also been looking at the parts of the pumpkin and its lifecycle.
