JAMES CAMPBELL WRITING DAY – Saturday 15th February
James Campbell is a children’s writer and storyteller. Over the last 24 years he has visited over two and a half thousand schools. James writes the Boyface series of books and also a new series of books which includes The Funny Life of Pets and The Funny Life of Teachers.
The Woodbridge Writing Day takes place on Saturday the 15th of February at EJArt Barn at Grange Farm, Hasketon. On the Grundisburgh road. It is aimed at children who are currently in Key Stage 2 but we may make exceptions if you ask nicely. It will run from 10am til 3.30pm but we ask grown-ups to come back for 3pm so we can talk to you about what we’ve been up to and share a bit of the writing. Apart from this though, you are free to leave your children with us for the day.
James has NSPCC training in child protection and is DBS checked. There will also be an assistant there as a second adult who will also be similarly checked. We have public liability insurance but for 95% of the time your children will be sitting around a table talking and writing so there’s not a lot to go wrong. In the event of some sort of emergency however, we do need a mobile number so we can get hold of you.
The day will consist of James showing various writing techniques that he uses and you won’t find on the national curriculum. James has an amazing ability to inspire children to write and his enthusiasm for creativity is infectious.
Each of our writings days have a different theme and this one will be around pets and animals. We try not to be prescriptive in any way, however, so children are still free to write whatever comes into their brains.
We will provide basic stationery but please bring any favourite pens, pencils and notebooks too. Please also bring a packed lunch, snacks and a water bottle.
The fee for the day is £30. We are a small outfit and we try and keep everything really simple so there is no need to make a deposit. Please just bring cash on the day. We limit each writing workshop to 15 children. If you are in receipt of free school meals, however, we will only charge half price: £15.
As well as the one in Woodbridge we are also running a workshop in Bury on the 18th of February. So if you know anyone in that area, please point this information in their direction.
