Y1 – Learning About Mexico

Hola from Y1! We’ve been to Mexico this week and have enjoyed learning about its culture and climate, as well as a few Spanish words.
We’ve located Mexico on the globe, identified the continent and compared its seasons to ours.

On Tuesday 2nd November it was the Mexican festival of Día de Los Muertos (The Day of the Dead). We looked at why they celebrate and the lovely things that they do to enjoy the festival, such as eat lots of yummy food, dress up and have a party to remember their family.

Later on in the term, we will be comparing this festival to Thanksgiving and Christmas, spotting the similarities and differences and whether or not festivals and celebrations around the world have particular things in common.

Next week we will continue to look at Mexico and the sequel to the book The Day the Crayons Quit: The Day the Crayons Came Home.
