Newsletter w/c 18th July
Dear Parents and Carers,
As promised, here is the final newsletter of the summer term. It is a bittersweet day as we say goodbye to our wonderful year 6 children. We wish them all the best for their futures. This afternoon, we held the Leavers’ Assembly, which was attended by all the children in the school, plus the year 6 parents. Miss Crossley also presented our shield winners, which you can see at our Shield Winners 2022 page. Congratulations to you all!
Staff leave for pastures new
The children are not the only people to depart WPS this term. We are also saying goodbye to some wonderful members of staff as they move on to pastures new.
Firstly, Sandra Thompson, our amazing School Business Manager, is leaving WPS after 6 years to take up an exciting new role working in the financial sector of the Police force. Sandra has worked tirelessly to ensure the smooth running of the school’s finances, staffing and maintenance since her arrival and we thank her for her long standing commitment and dedication to her role, especially during the pandemic. We wish her all the very best in the future.
Kirsty Brierley, our wonderful teaching assistant and sports coach in year 5, will be leaving in order to start a new life with her family in Oman. Kirsty has been an invaluable member of our team for 5 years and she will be much missed for her work across the school. We thank her for all her hard work and energy in supporting learning and we wish her well on her forthcoming move.
Emily Smith, our invaluable 1:1 LSA and teaching assistant in years 3 & 4, will also be leaving to pursue a career change and will be working as an Inclusion Facilitator in the council, supporting children and families with needs, from September. We thank Emily for her dedication and care in the six months she has worked at WPS and we wish her well in her new role.
Lastly, we say goodbye to our Comms lead, Rosie Denny, who has done an incredible job of keeping our whole community informed and up to date since her arrival in October. She has regularly gone above and beyond and we thank her for all her dedication and effort. Rosie is moving back into Copywriting and will be joining a marketing agency in August. She’s also building on her floristry training and continues to welcome your commissions!
I know you will join me in saying a big thank you and good luck to all those who are departing, as they embark on new adventures.
While we’re saying thank you, it’s important to say a very special thank you to all the staff at WPS for their unwavering commitment and care to our school community this year.
They have been giants and they’ve had to navigate the school through what has been an incredibly challenging year, hampered in large part by COVID. Here’s hoping they all have a very restful summer.
Notes for September
And now onto next year. All the things that you need to know for September are in School News w/c 11th July so please refer to this for details relating to term dates, PE Kit and uniform. On this note, we’re aware that some children have never worn ‘school shoes’ before, so here is some information:
School shoes should:
- be plain black and basic in style (patent is OK)
- provide adequate cushioning and support
- have a supportive base and no high heels
- be made from a hard wearing material for the wet weather e.g. not canvas
- have laces, straps or a velcro fastening.
- trainer-styles without sports logos are acceptable – such as this boys’ shoe. However, your child will need separate sports trainers for PE, designed for running and jumping!
If you have any questions about what might be appropriate, please contact the office.
We leave you with some lovely photos of the last week in school, including Y3’s work on seed dispersal, the Early Years Sports Day, F2 Keeping Cool, Mr Bean, the Magpie Manor performers, and some music from today’s leavers’ assembly.
See you in September!
Y6 – Around school today
We had fun signing shirts and lining up for lunch for the last time! We also came up with different words to describe our friends, which you can see in this word cloud.
Y6 – Leavers’ Assembly
We all shared a special memory of our time at WPS. The shield winners received their awards, and we sang two special songs. The class all took home a goodie bag with a framed class photo and a purple leavers’ hoody or t-shirt.
By the end, there wasn’t a dry eye in the hall!
Y6 – Some memories…
Apologies that we weren’t able to record them all!

Mr Bean – F1
We loved our afternoon of balloon modelling and plate spinning fun! Thank you to everyone who made this possible.
Mr Bean – F2
And finally… keeping cool in F2
We created our own foot spas to round off the hottest week in history!
