WPS Personal Skipping Challenge

The WPS Skipping Challenge is back! We are encouraging children across the school to practice skipping in lessons and at break times. The challenge, set by Mrs Brierley, Mrs Murton and Mrs Girling, is: ‘how many skips can you complete in either 30 seconds or 1 minute?’

Each child will have their scores recorded so that they can try to beat their own numbers as their fitness improves. Mrs Girling has put together this motivational video to explain how it works, with tips on how to get skipping. We’d love you to encourage your child to skip at home – you might be tempted to join in too!

Free Clubs Sign-up

Emails have gone out today with details of which clubs your child can sign up for this term. Please sign up by Thursday 20th January to put your child’s name/s down and we will confirm their place by next Friday.

Cross Country Running

Congratulations to Thomas Freeman in Y5 who came 6th overall in the boy’s race at the U11’s Suffolk County Cross Country Championship on Sunday!

Trainers Reminder

The Spring term is shaping up to be a very active one! Please can you make sure that your children wear trainers every day so that they can move around safely during their many activities. The PE timetable for your child’s year group is below but they will also be having curriculum ‘Tennis Tuesdays’ for specific parts of the calendar (see below) as well as the skipping challenges mentioned above.

PE – School Timetable

Year 1 – Monday
Year 2 – Fridays
Year 3 – Mondays and Tuesdays
Year 4 – Monday and Wednesdays
Year 5 – Wednesday and Fridays
Year 6 – Mondays and Fridays (swimming)

Tennis Tuesdays

It is particularly important that the children wear trainers on these days for safety reasons – please note that children will not be able to participate without them. Your child is welcome to bring their own tennis racquet to their session if they wish.

Reminder for Jubilee Day – Friday 18th February

As you may be aware, an extra bank holiday has been announced for 3 June 2022 for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. As this falls during the school holidays, we are able to close the school on an alternative date to give staff and students a day off. We have chosen Friday 18th February, which is the final day before the half term break. As a result, the last day of school prior to half term will be Thursday 17th February, allowing families to enjoy an extended week off. We have chosen this date in line with Farlingaye High School as we recognise this will be beneficial to families with siblings there.

Ongoing Covid-19 Guidance

As you will have seen in the news, the guidance on Covid testing is changing again. From Monday, people will be able to leave isolation after negative lateral flow tests on days five and six – which is a reduction from the current 10 to seven days introduced back in December.

We continue to stay in regular contact with Suffolk County Council’s Covid-19 support line in order to reflect the latest guidance in our emails to you. As usual, we will continue to update you when there are cases in your child’s class.
