Medication at School

Inhalers & AAI’s

Should your child need special medication to be kept permanently in school, i.e. inhalers or Epi Pens (Emergency adrenaline auto injectors  – AAIs) we require an Individual Care Plan issued by the prescribing person, e.g. doctor, hospital, etc. This is on the advice of the School Nursing Team. Our Asthma Policy can be viewed on our Policies page.

The following forms must be returned by the first day back in September each academic year. Families must ensure that any medications in date and clearly labelled with the child’s name, and in their original packaging.

Below is a list of necessary documentation:
  • Parental agreement to administer medication (one per medication) – link below
  • My Asthma Plan (inhaler only) – link below
  • School Asthma Card (inhaler only) – link below
  • Consent form for the use of an emergency inhaler (inhaler only) – link below
  • Individual Healthcare Plan (AAI only)
  • A review of the NHS action plan by a GP or consultant (AAI only)

Other Medication

Should your child need special medication to be kept permanently in school, i.e. inhalers or Epi Pens (Emergency adrenaline auto injectors  – AAIs) we require an Individual Care Plan issued by the prescribing person, e.g. doctor, hospital, etc. This is on the advice of the School Nursing Team.

If your child needs to take medication during the school day, we are only able to administer this in exceptional circumstances (i.e. antibiotics that need to be taken four times a day). You will need to complete the Medication Consent Form below with details of the medication required; this should be handed to the office.
